The African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) has reported a series of attacks on villages in the region this month, but the Khor Abeche camp in South Darfur, assaulted on Saturday, was an unusual target.

The deadly militia attack happened on Friday in Sigili village, about 30 kilometres southeast of the North Darfur state capital El-Fasher
The ambush occurred while a UNAMID convoy of military, police and civilian personnel was on its way to the Hashaba area.
