The health affairs committee of the House of Representatives approved during its meeting on Monday a draft law of the Egyptian Health Council, which was submitted by the Cabinet.   

The committee agreed on the name of the draft law as stated by the government — ‘The Egyptian Health Council’ — as some members have previously demanded to change its name to the ‘Egyptian Council for Health Specialties.’

Head of the Health Affairs Committee Ashraf Hatem referred to a meeting with the Acting Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, who assured him that the government had agreed on the name of the Egyptian Health Council, considering it “stronger in expressing the council’s entity.”

The committee had previously held a hearing and a community dialogue on the draft law in the presence of representatives of health and medical authorities and unions and a number of specialists.

Article (1) of the draft law stipulates the establishment of the Egyptian Health Council and that it shall have a legal standing. It will report to the President of the Republic, and its headquarters will be in Greater Cairo, with the possibility of establishing branches in other governorates.
