The US Embassy in Israel has warned its employees and their families to avoid visiting the Old City of Jerusalem.

“Because of security incidents that often occur without warning, we strongly encourage US citizens to be vigilant and take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness,” it said.

“Due to the recent security incidents in and around the Old City of Jerusalem, we advise US government employees and their family members to avoid the Old City until further notice,” it added.

On Sunday, a Palestinian opened fire on Israelis in the Old City, killing an Israeli and wounding four others.
