Egyptian actress Yousra participates in UN campaign to end AIDS by 2030

Legendary actress works to eliminate stigma, discrimination against people living with and affected by HIV in Arab region

Egyptian superstar actress Yousra has taken part in a United Nations (UN) campaign to end AIDS by 2030, as UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

The campaign aims to send a powerful message to hold world leaders to their commitment to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030.

The campaign comes 40 years after the first cases of AIDS were reported. As part of a film marking her participation in the campaign, Yousra delivered the words, “To end AIDS, we need to talk about it”.

Alongside the legendary Egyptian actress, the campaign features a number of public figures and superstars from around the world, including: the English musician Sir Elton John; Princess Stéphanie of Monaco; Canadian filmmaker David Furnish; France’s Ambassador for Global Health, Stéphanie Seydoux; US actress and singer Sheryl Lee Ralph; First Lady of the Central African Republic, Brigitte Touadera; and Winnie Byanyima, Executive Director of UNAIDS.

The film, which featured a number of public figures and superstars from across the world, presents various statistics regarding the world’s AIDS infections, its risks, and the harm of the disease.

As UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador for the MENA region, Yousra is keen on her participation in the UN activities. She works on eliminating stigma and discrimination against people living with and affected by HIV in the Arab region.

She also raises awareness on HIV prevention, and encourages those infected to receive treatment.
