Egypt, Canada discuss adaptation to climate change

Two sides stressed aspiration to continue cooperation, coordination on international environmental issues

Egypt’s Ambassador to Canada Ahmed Abou Zeid has held discussions with Patricia Fuller, Canada’s Ambassador for Climate Change, as part of efforts to enhance consultation and coordination on the most prominent environmental issues of common concern.

After the video conference meeting, Abou Zeid said that he was keen to thank Canada for joining the Adaptation Action Alliance for which Egypt holds the co-presidency.

The alliance is concerned with strengthening the collective international effort to deal with issues of adaptation to climate change.

He briefed Fuller on the pioneering role that Egypt plays in the framework of implementing President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi’s initiative relating to the three Rio environmental conventions. These relate to climate change, biological diversity, and combating desertification.

Abou Zeid also updated her on the most important developments related to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) negotiations.

At the end of the meeting, the two sides stressed their aspiration to continue cooperation and coordination on international environmental issues. This is particularly relevant as the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) is set to take place in the UK this November.
