Art D’Égypte organises two exhibitions in Downtown Cairo

Art platform is keen to add contemporary artistic touch to Egypt’s heritage areas, says founder Nadine Abdel Ghaffar

Art D’Égypte has organised two art and cultural exhibitions in Downtown Cairo, on 18-20 November, entitled “Eternal Light II” and “Dots”.

The exhibition will showcase the continued influence of Ancient Egypt, which has been a monumental source of inspiration for artists throughout history.

The “Forever Is Now” exhibition is an international art show that both reflects the profound, global influence of Ancient Egypt, and draws on the ongoing inclusiveness of contemporary cultural practices. Whether practiced by the Ancient Egyptians, themselves, or by contemporary artists, the making of art permits one generation to bear witness to the present and speak to the next.

It is a continuous undertaking that reflects humankind’s enduring talent for creating works that inspire the imagination, and that reveal the wonders and unity of humanity through the arts. The “Forever Is Now” exhibition reflects the cross-cultural nature of art, and how Ancient Egypt continues to be a source of inspiration and influence for artists around the world until now.

The exhibits create a sense of motion for 13 contemporary Egyptian artists, including Adel Rahoumi, Mohamed Abul Naga, Youssef Ragheb, Dina Gerdini, and Ibrahim El-Fishawy.

The second exhibition, “Eternal Light II”, shed light on non-traditional contemporary artistic works that seek to understand cultural heritage, and link Egyptian civilisation of the past with its present.

The exhibition presented the works of 12 contemporary Egyptian artists, including Mohamed Abla, Adel Al-Siwy, Hany Rashid, Nihal Wehbe, and Ibrahim El-Desouky.

Nadine Abdel Ghaffar, Founder and General Manager of Art D’Égypte, said that the two exhibitions were held in Downtown Cairo as part of the platform’s “Forever is Now” exhibition.

She said that this year will witness a number of artistic and cultural activities, in the run up to the launch of the “Forever is Now” exhibition.

Abdel Ghaffar added that choosing Downtown Cairo as the location for the two exhibitions comes as a confirmation of the area’s historical and artistic value. She noted that Art D’Égypte is keen to add a contemporary artistic touch to heritage areas, and to involve young artists in their revival.
