Egyptian exports to US increase 27.5% in 2019: CAPMAS

Egyptian exports to US equivalent to 7.2% of Egypt's total exports in 2019


The value of Egyptian exports to US in 2019 amounted to $2195.8m, a 27.5% increase on the $1721.7m recorded in 2018, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The Egyptian exports to the US in 2019 were equivalent to 7.2% of Egypt’s total exports in this period, CAPMAS added.

On Monday, the agency issued the annual bulletin of economic relations between Egypt and the US in 2019. The report focuses on the Egypt-US trade exchange.

Egypt’s largest area of exports to the US were garments, reflecting 43.1% of the country’s total exports to the US, reaching $945.7m in 2019, an 18% increase on the $801.2m recorded in 2018.

The value of Egypt’s imports from the US amounted to $5147.9m in 2019, representing 6.6% of Egypt’s total imports last year, reflecting a 5.7% decrease on the $5460.8m in 2018.

The agency added that cereals, oilseeds, medicinal plants, and fodder were the largest areas of Egyptian imports from the US, at 22.5% of the total imports. These items valued at $1157.6m in 2019, a decrease of 4.6% compared to the $1213.4m recorded in 2018.
