Silicon Waha, NxtVn to establish data centre in Borg El Arab

Joint stock company to be established for development of the complexes and creating basic infrastructure

Silicon Waha Company signed a strategic partnership with Dutch company NxtVn through a memorandum of understanding to establish a data centre complex in the Borg El-Arab Technological Park on 60,000sqm.

Under this agreement, a joint stock company will be established to construct the basic infrastructure and develop the data complexes to enable linking internet and data-transfer service providers with content providers in Egypt and abroad.

The signing ceremony was attended by Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser Al-Qadi; the CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), Asmaa Hosni; and the chairperson of NxtVn in Finland, vice president of the group, and former minister of communications in Finland, Suvi Linden.

According to Al-Qadi, this agreement reflects the confidence of investors in the Egyptian investment climate. He said that the sector has been marking a growth of 11.2% per year and is contributing 3.2% to Egypt’s GDP.

Hosni said that the complexes will become a communication hub between the East and the West through utilising marine cables and taking advantage of Egypt’s strategic position on the map in order to improve the efficiency of data transfer around the world.

NxtVn is one of the leading international companies specialised in building and managing data complexes for major international companies in Europe and the US, thanks to its new technology and network solutions. The company adopts the Amsterdam Stock Exchange internet standards and has a number of branches in London, Helsinki, and Dubai, with its main headquarters in the Dutch capital of Amsterdam.
