Arab and EU foreign ministers hold bilateral meeting in Cairo

The head of the Arab League said the meeting should be held regularly

The fourth meeting between Arab and European Union (EU) foreign ministers began on Tuesday at the Arab League’s general secretariat headquarters in Cairo. The meeting was held in order to discuss issues relating to counter-terrorism, immigration, and the elimination of weapons of mass destruction.

The Arab foreign ministers meeting was headed by Tunisian foreign minister Khemaies Jhinaoui and head of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul-Gheit, while the EU ministers meeting was headed by EU foreign policy coordinator Federica Mogherini, state-run Akhbar Al-Youm reported.

The meeting is meant to foster cooperation between the EU and Arab countries. The meeting is also meant to promote the idea of holding similar summits more frequently. A joint declaration is expected to be revealed by the end of the meeting.

Aboul-Gheit said in a speech that he had delivered during the meeting that it was important for Arab foreign ministers and their European counterparts to meet more frequently.
