Prosecution releases Malek Adly after urgent investigation session

Another investigation session was scheduled for journalist Amr Badr, but it was cancelled

Shubra prosecution upheld the release of human rights defender Malek Adly after it summoned him for an urgent investigation session on Tuesday.

‘’The session was a continuation of investigations into the same case for which I was imprisoned,’’ Adly told Daily News Egypt. He added that he is not yet sure if this is the last investigation session he will face in this case or not, despite being formally released in late August after spending 115 days in remand.

During the investigation session, he was questioned about some of his statements against the regime in a televised talk show, as well as some Facebook posts.

The lawyer was accused of attempting to topple the regime, amending the Constitution, joining an entity that works against the government, and spreading false news about the recent maritime demarcation deal between Egypt and Saudi Arabia over two Red Sea islands, according to the lawyer.

There was another investigation session scheduled for journalist Amr Badr, who was released two days after Adly, but it was cancelled.

He was arrested, along with journalist Mahmoud Al-Saqa, in May, for charges of inciting protests and attempting to topple the regime after they initiated a sit-in in front of the Press Syndicate in late April, protesting two security raids that were conducted at dawn at their private residences.
