Court reduces Amr Ali’s sentence to 2 years in prison

Ali was earlier sentenced to three years in prison for illegal protesting

Marg Misdemeanor Court of Appeal mitigated on Saturday a verdict against former 6 April Youth Movement coordinator Amr Ali to two years in prison.

In late February, Ali was sentenced to three years in prison on a number of charges, including inciting riots and illegal protesting.

Three other defendants were sentenced in the same verdict, although in absentia. All the defendants were also accused of joining an illegal group and resisting authorities.

Ali, the general coordinator of the opposition movement, was arrested last September in his hometown of Ashmoun in Manufiya in what was then considered to be a forced disappearance until he was located in Tora prison after being interrogated without a lawyer present.
