7 injured in terrorist attacks across North Sinai

3 bombs exploded in Rafah and Sheikh Zuweid, injuring 5 conscripts, 1 non-commissioned officer, 1 citizen

Several terrorist attacks took place across North Sinai on Thursday, injuring five conscripts, one non-commissioned officer, and one citizen, according to the North Sinai News Facebook page.

A bomb exploded near Rafah in North Sinai, targeting an army-armoured vehicle and injuring a non-commissioned officer and two conscripts. Meanwhile, another bomb detonated near an army-armoured vehicle on Al-Kharouba village road in Sheikh Zuweid, injuring two other conscripts.

Also in Sheikh Zuweid, another conscript was wounded in the explosion of an army-armoured vehicle.

Moreover, a citizen was shot in his thigh by unknown suspects in Hafn area, south of Al-Arish, according to the Sinai Now TV Facebook page.

The seven wounded people were sent to Al-Arish military hospital, and investigations are ongoing.

Two security force conscripts were shot dead in Al-Borag in central Sinai, during violent clashes with Beit Al-Maqdis militants, who had attempted to attack a police vehicle, Al-Watan newspaper reported on Thursday.

On 19 July, the parliament approved the extension of the state of emergency in North Sinai. The curfew hours were first imposed in 2014, and had been renewed every three months since then as a measure on counter-terrorism.

Sinai has become the scene of frequent clashes between militants and state security forces. An extensive counter-insurgency operation was launched to curb militancy within Sinai. These operations have imposed a state of emergency in the northern regions of the peninsula.
