General prosecutor orders assets freeze against drug dealer’s family

The decision followed investigations into the dealer’s involvement in drug, weapon dealing as well as killing police officers

The General Prosecutor Nabil Sadek ordered on Monday a freeze of all funds belonging to the family of the notorious drug dealer Mohamed “Al-Doksh” Hafez, state-run news agency MENA reported.

The decision followed investigations into Al-Doksh’s involvement in drug dealing, weapons dealing, as well as killing police officers in Al-Khanka and a police officer in Shoubra named Mostafa Lotfy.

The drug cartel is accused of ambushing raids conducted by various Ministry of Interior security directorates as well, inflicting causalities on security forces.

According to the Ministry of Interior, there are two police officers who allegedly have ties to the drug cartel.

They are suspected of accepting bribes from El-Doksh and of helping him evade security raids. This was discovered during an internal review conducted by the ministry in late April.

The ministry started investigating their involvement in the case. However, the assets freeze decision included only the drug cartel.

Police arrested El-Doksh on 27 March following a series of raids during which three police officers, three informants, and two of El-Doksh’s top aides were killed.
