Ministry of Trade cancels export fees on production components for projects in free zones

Decision includes components of animal feed, mining materials and scrap

Minister of Trade and Industry Tarek Qabil suspends six previous ministerial decisions, which imposed export fees on materials used in the production projects operating in free zones inside Egypt.

Qabil said this decision allows projects operating in free zones to obtain production components from the local market without applying export regulations on them. These regulations banned the export of some components abroad and imposing  fees on them such as some animal feed components, scarps and textile refuse, bacterial fertilisers, mining materials, and other by-products.

He said there are some production projects operating in the free zones that do not align with the aim of establishing these free zones, such as rice mills. These products demand incentives from the government which contradict the aim of providing value-added products for exportation.

This decision will not affect local factories needing raw materials available on the Egyptian market.
