Court resumes Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis defendants’ trial

The general prosecution has previously accused the defendants of 54  indictments.

The Cairo Criminal Court resumes Saturday the trial of 213 defendants who allegedly belong to the militant group formerly known as Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis in North Sinai.

The group rebranded itself to “Sinai Province” after pledging allegiance to “Islamic State” in November 2014.

The General Prosecution has accused the defendants of a total of 54 indictments, including establishing, leading and belonging to terrorist groups that aim to disable the state’ apparatuses.

In addition, the defendants are accused of violating the freedoms and rights of citizens, as well as conducting espionage for Hamas, the de-facto rulers of the Gaza Strip.
