Turkish statement is ‘unacceptable interference in Egypt’s internal affairs’: Abu Zaid

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson called on Turkish officials to stop denying Egypt’s international status, and to pay attention to its own violations against its citizens

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry slammed previous statements by a Turkish presidential advisor, referring to them as “an unacceptable interference in Egypt’s internal affairs”.

Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zaid said the statements issued by the advisor to the Turkish presidency, Ibrahim Kalin, on Turkish-Egyptian relations, and its intervention in Egyptian affairs is unacceptable.

Kalin previously said that the existing conflict between Egypt and Turkey is due to what he described as “a military coup”, referring to the 3 July 2013 ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi and the subsequent military takeover of power.

Aby Zaid added that Egypt is moving steadily toward development and prosperity, to meet the expectations of the Egyptian people.

He further called on Turkish officials to stop denying Egypt’s international status. He called on them to instead pay attention to Turkey’s own violations against its citizens every day, whether they are against those demanding their rights or expressing their opinion, or against academics or minorities in Turkey.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry had previously highlighted that the restoration of relations with Turkey is subject to Turkey’s actions. He said Ankara must end its support to the Muslim Brotherhood.
