Explosion injures 2 policemen near Foreign Ministry’s Mohandessin office

The explosion has not been claimed as a militant attack

An explosion injured two policemen near a Ministry of Foreign Affairs building on Ahmed Orabi Street in Giza’s Mohandessin neighbourhood Sunday afternoon.

State-owned Al-Ahram newspaper reported the blast struck two Central Security Forces personnel stationed near the Foreign Ministry’s administrative building in the Giza governorate.

The area has been cordoned off to search for further explosives.

According to BBC Arabic, the blast damaged numerous cars around the security cordon surrounding the ministry building.

Also on Sunday, in North Sinai, gunmen killed a top police officer in the town of Al-Arish. The attack was claimed by Egypt’s leading insurgent group “State of Sinai”, a local affiliate to “Islamic State”.

Egyptian security forces have been confronting an escalating security situation since the regime change of 2013, which imprisoned former president Mohamed Morsi, of the Muslim Brotherhood. The vast majority of attacks are claimed by militants who have Islamist leanings.
