Militant group Ajnad Misr claimed Thursday responsibility for the explosion in Roxy Square on the same day, which left one police officer injured.

The police officer was injured after the bomb was detonated in the square, in the Cairo district of Heliopolis.The group said the bomb contained fewer explosives to minimise civilian causalities.

Following the attack, the area of the explosion was cordoned off, and explosive experts were assigned to clear the area.

Currently, 20 alleged members of the extremist armed group, Ajnad Misr, who are charged with conducting at least 20 different bomb attacks in Egypt, are being tried, with a media gag imposed on the case.
