The Egyptian Union for Human Rights (EUHR) drafted a law to counter illegal immigration, which will be passed on to the cabinet Wednesday for discussion, head of the organisation Naguib Ghobraiel said.

The 17-articles law defines illegal immigration as “any action of an individual or group that leads to exiting or attempting to exit the country to any other place regionally, internationally or continentally, without authorisation or license from respective authorities.”

The draft law, proposed to the government on Saturday, calls for penalties for the crimes of committing, participating in or inciting illegal immigration and infiltration that range between 15 years in prison and death sentences.

The law called on for capital punishment for those who participate in, attempt, or call for illegal immigration that leads to the death of migrants.

Ghobraiel said on Monday that the law would help decrease the number of people who attempt illegal immigration, and would tighten the grip on traffickers who gain huge amounts of money by facilitating illegal immigration.
