Six military personnel were killed and two others injured in a Sunday car bomb in the North Sinai town of Sheikh Zuweid, the official Facebook page of the military spokesperson reported.

The deceased include two officers and two conscripts, whom were on their way to “fulfilling their duty in fighting terrorism,” the statement said.

The North Sinai based militant group, ‘State of Sinai’, claimed responsibility for the attack, according to Twitter accounts allegedly affiliated to the group.

According to journalists in North Sinai and confirmed by the army, bombs targeted a passing  army vehicle in the area of Karam Al-Qawadees, where a major operation by the same group, formerly ‘Ansar Bayt Al-Maqdis’, killed at least 27 soldiers last November.

The militant group also announced it was responsible for the murder of two other officers last Tuesday, in addition to broadcasting a video showing the execution of a conscript.

This is at least the third operation in Sinai so far this April, including two attacks on security checkpoints which left nearly 13 soldiers dead.
