More Egyptians return from Libya, Yemen

25 Egyptians returned from Yemen, 189 from Libya on Sunday

Up to 25 Egyptians have returned to the country out of 763 Egyptian expats in Yemen from Jeddah airport in Saudi Arabia on Sunday morning. Their return home came after crossing the border between Yemen and Saudi Arabia, state media reported.

The arrival of Sunday’s returnees was arranged by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Egyptian embassy in Jeddah who made reservations for them via national carrier EgyptAir.

Meanwhile, another EgyptAir flight arrived Sunday morning carrying 189 Egyptian expats who had been in Libya, with the flight coming in from Tunisia. These are the latest of the 12,711 Egyptians in total who have been travelling back from Libya since February.

The ongoing transfer processes of returning Egyptians from Libya have reached 57 flights. This follows the release of an “Islamic State” video showing the killings of 20 Coptic Egyptians. Many Egyptian workers in Libya, however, prefer to cross the Salloum border to return to Egypt rather than using airplanes, due to expensive airflight tickets.

A total of 525 Egyptians have been deported from Yemen since the start of the Saudi-led military operations against the Houthis, according to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Badr Abdelatty.
