Shoukry, Saleh discuss Egypt-Eritrean relations

Relations with African countries saw improvement, several attend Economic Summit

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with his Eritrean counterpart Othman Saleh Saturday on the sidelines of the Economic Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, to discuss bilateral relations and the situation in Africa.

Saleh noted Eritrea’s stance regarding the Egyptian people’s will, as embodied in 30 June 2013, and his country’s support for Egypt in its “war against terrorism”. Saleh also outlined Eritrea’s support for the Egyptian government’s classification of the Muslim Brotherhood as a “terrorist group”, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

Relations with African countries have witnessed an improvement since President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi took office, following years of deterioration.

Several African countries are attending the summit, including Mali, Malawi, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Sudan and Eritrea.

Shoukry is scheduled to meet his Norwegian and Bahraini counterparts on Saturday. He is also set to meet the Secretary General of United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), and the Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean.
