President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi issued a decree on Wednesday appointing Ahmed Gamal Al Din as advisor for security affairs and fighting terrorism, and Faiza Abu el-Naga as advisor for national security.

Gamal Al Din was interior minister under ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi until January 2013. Morsi had dismissed him and hired the current Minister of Interior Mohamed Ibrahim.

Abu el-Naga was the Planning and International Cooperation under toppled president Hosni Mubarak for 11 years.

The appointments are part of the government’s increased security measures in light of recent militant attacks.

Al-Sisi had issued a decree on 27 October to bring infrastructure under military jurisdiction and enable those accused of attacking the state’s “vital” facilities face military trial.

The Egyptian military has been carrying out raids and operations as part of an ongoing security effort to tackle militant activity in the Sinai Peninsula.
