3 injured following Ghamra explosion

Bomb was placed in a dustbin underneath Ghamra Bridge in Cairo

Three people were injured Saturday morning following a bomb explosion underneath Cairo’s Ghamra Bridge. The bomb was hidden in a dustbin.

Street cleaners suspected an unidentified object as they cleaned the area under the bridge, which exploded as they approached. According to explosive experts, the blast was caused by a homemade explosive device, left by unidentified people at the bottom of the bridge.

MENA state news agency reported that bomb experts are currently making sure that there are no other explosive devices in the Ghamra area.

On 22 October, a bomb went off outside of Cairo University, injuring at least 10 people. A blast in front of the Ramses metro station, near Egypt’s High Court, injured 13 people late at night on 14 October.  Another bomb killed two policemen and injured several others in the proximity of the foreign ministry on 21 September.

Since the ousting of president Mohamed Morsi in 2013, bomb attacks have increased in number and frequency across Egypt.
