The family of former president Mohamed Morsi released a statement condemning Friday’s attacks in North Sinai, which killed 30 security personnel.

The family placed blame on the current Egyptian government under President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. A statement released by the Muslim Brotherhood Sunday added that Morsi’s family “holds coup authorities fully responsible for neglecting security and protection of the lives of soldiers”.

The family said a security failure allowed the attacks to take place, because “authorities are preoccupied with protecting the coup regime and its symbols” rather than the lives of its soldiers.

The statement added: “Morsi’s family offers sincere condolences to the Egyptian people and the families of the martyrs of Friday’s treacherous violent incident in Sinai.”

Morsi was ousted from power by the military in July 2013, following mass demonstrations against his government.

Osama Morsi, the Morsi family’s spokesman, called the bombing a “heinous criminal incident”.
