The Bandar Fayoum Criminal Court acquitted 11 defendants on Sunday, who were accused of protesting illegally.

The 11 were arrested on 8 August and charged with breaking the Protest Law, blocking the road, and resisting the regime.

The defendants’ ages ranged from 17 to 40, including four juveniles, according to a Facebook statement issued by “Freedom for the Brave”, a group supporting prisoners’ right.

The issuing of the Protest Law by the interim government in November 2013 came at a time of frequent clashes between Muslim Brotherhood supporters and security forces. However, since the law was enacted, a sweeping crackdown was launched against a number of students and activists on charges of “illegal assembly”.
