At least eight killed in road accident

Tourist bus flips near Red Sea, en route to Hurghada

At least eight Egyptian passengers were killed and 29 others were injured Sunday morning when a tourist bus flipped in the Red Sea governorate en route to Hurghada, according to the Ministry of Health.

The bus was coming from Cairo when the accident occurred, precisely 25 km into the Zaafarana-Hurghada road. Twenty-five ambulances were sent to the site of the accident, state-run news agency MENA reported.

A ninth passenger died due to his wounds shortly after he was taken to hospital, reported state-run Al-Ahram citing the Red Sea Health Directorate.

Inclement weather conditions are believed to be the cause of the accident, MENA reported.

In February, eight Egyptian hikers were stranded in a blizzard in the mountains surrounding St. Catherine. Four out of the eight hikers were found dead. Amid accusations of negligence, the armed forces said that the hikers should have notified the relevant authorities before embarking on their trip.
