Former Libyan Special Envoy to Egypt and cousin of slain Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi, Ahmed Gaddafi Al-Dam was acquitted on Monday from charges of attempted murder of two policemen, resisting authorities and the acquisition of an unlicenced firearm.

According to one of his aides, Gaddafi Al-Dam surrendered hours after an exchange of fire between his bodyguards and policemen who tried to enter his apartment, reported AFP.

Gaddafi Al-Dam was arrested from his residence in Zamalek last March under ousted president Mohamed Morsi, during a crackdown coordinated between the Libyan and Egyptian authorities to arrest high-ranking Libyan officials of the Muammar Gaddafi regime.
