In Pictures: Protests in and around Cairo University as students start their strike

Police vehicle burnt by SAC in Al-Nahda Square amid complete absence of security forces

Several thousand students protested on Sunday in several gatherings in and around Cairo University after the death of engineering student Mohamed Reda on Thursday.

Protests started around noon, when 400 students and professors assembled in front of the Cairo University dome, chanting against the Ministry of Interior and demanding the trial of its head, Mohamed Ibrahim, and Minister of Higher Education Hossam Eissa. Students Against the Coup (SAC) joined the protest later, only to be rejected by the first protest for having a different purpose: carrying Rabaa signs and chanting against “the coup”. Engineering students blocked the doors to their faculty to stop them from joining their protest.

SAC protesters then headed out to Nahda Square with plans to march to Tahrir Square.
