Morsi supporters and opponents clash in Alexandria

Birdshot guns and stones were used in the clashes, no deaths reported

Morsi supporters clashed with residents of the Al Shatbi neighbourhood in Alexandria on Friday, before security forces fired teargas to disperse them.

The ousted president’s supporters set out from a mosque in the vicinity. The marches were near Camp Shizar and the Sutter area of Al Shatbi. Residents and shop owners pushed them back, which caused protests to reach the Corniche area where clashes restarted.

The protest led to a complete blockage of the Corniche road with gunfire and rocks being thrown. Security forces intervened to stop the clashes from escalating by firing warning shots in the air, as reported by Al-Arabiya.

Armed forces armoured vehicles cordoned the protest and security forces separated both parties to halt clashes. Roads leading to Shatbi and Sidi Gaber are currently blocked by the military.

Clashes also occurred in front of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, however, the number of people injured is still unconfirmed.
