Ban says Geneva deal must end “appalling” Syria suffering

Ban has the "fervent hope" that the deal reached in Geneva will prevent any further use of chemical arms and "help pave the path for a political solution to stop the appalling suffering inflicted on the Syrian people," said a UN spokeswoman Vannina Maestracci.

AFP UN leader Ban Ki-moon on Saturday welcomed a Russian-US deal on Syria’s chemical weapons and hopes it will lead to efforts to end the “appalling suffering” of Syrians, a spokeswoman said.

Ban has the “fervent hope” that the deal reached in Geneva will prevent any further use of chemical arms and “help pave the path for a political solution to stop the appalling suffering inflicted on the Syrian people,” said a UN spokeswoman Vannina Maestracci.
