Giza police station hit with explosion

Assailants remain at large

The Boulaq Al-Dakrour police station in Giza was hit by an improvised explosive device on Monday morning around 11am, according to a Ministry of Interior press statement.  Two civilian workers were injured in the attack.

Three unidentified suspects on a motorcycle threw the explosive device at the police station from the nearby Tharway Bridge.  The workers were injured by flying shrapnel, and taken by ambulance to a hospital.

The motivation for the attack and the identity of the assailants is under investigation.

Egypt has been plagued by violence since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi on 3 July.  The violence has been heightened after the 14 August dispersals of pro-Morsi sit-ins by the police.
