On Sunday Giza prosecution began their investigation of preacher Safwat Hegazy on charges of attempted murder, violence and possessing weapons during the Bien Al-Sarayat and Al-Nahda Square clashes.

Hegazy was interrogated at Tora prison on Sunday where he is currently detained, according to state-run Al-Ahram.

First Attorney General of the South Giza Prosecution Yasser Tallawy supervised the national security team that will lead investigations against Hegazy, former president Mohamed Morsi and several other Muslim Brotherhood leaders on charges of incitement in both clashes, which resulted in 23 deaths and 200 injuries.

Hegazy had been previously charged with inciting violence in speeches he delivered at the Rabaa Al- Adaweya sit-in.

Security forces arrested Hegazy on 21 August near Marsa Matruh as he was allegedly attempting to flee to Libya following the dispersal of the Rabaa Al-Adaweya sit-in in Cairo.
