Tens were injured after clashes erupted between opponents and supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi in Shubra on Friday.

The Rabaa Al-Adaweya makeshift hospital reported 11 injured with live bullets, while 13 sustained injuries due to getting struck by rocks and getting beaten by sticks.

Mostafa Sobhy, a member in Al-Dostour Party who resides in Shubra said: “for some reason, pro-Morsi protesters keep coming back to Shubra. Today they formed a march and tried to get into the Al-Khazander Mosque.”

Shubra residents gathered around them and chanted “The army and the people one hand,” while the pro-Morsi protesters chanted against the Army. “No one knows how the clashes began, they just began,” said Sobhy.

Pro-Morsi protesters were able to get away, while Shubra residents immediately formed security checkpoints to deter their return.

Tarek Al-Morsi, spokesman of the Freedom and Justice Party, said thousands of pro-Morsi protesters gathered outside the mosque for Friday prayers “but Shubra thugs did not allow them in, which is expected after Al-Sisi called for a civil war.”

On Tuesday, clashes occurred in Shubra after a Muslim Brotherhood march heading to Rabaa Al-Adaweya, killing one and injuring dozens.

Brotherhood members have been protesting since 28 June, declaring that they would not move until Morsi is reinstated as president.
