The North Cairo Misdemeanour Court ordered on Tuesday the release of former president Hosni Mubarak regarding the case of graft charges.

Mohamed Al-Beshlawy, head of the East Cairo Prosecution, appealed the decision to release Mubarak hours after its issuance on Tuesday.

The North Cairo court also accepted Mubarak’s challenge to the charges pressed against him by the Illicit Gains Authority, reported state-owned news agency MENA. The ousted president is accused of illicitly multiplying his wealth in a manner which doesn’t comply with his legitimate sources of income.

Mubarak had received an earlier release order from the Cairo Criminal Court regarding another case where he faces charges of illicit gains in April only to have the release order appealed by the prosecution.

The ousted president remains in jail over charges of seizing public money. He is accused, alongside his sons Gamal and Alaa, of illegally taking money from the state’s annual budget.

The South Cairo Criminal Court on 15 April had ordered Mubarak’s release from custody in a case where he faces charges of killing protesters during the 25 January 2011 uprising that removed him from the presidency.
