Activation of the country’s new Subsidised Life System, using smart cards for subsidies, will take place within the next three months with the introduction of new family cards, said Minister of State for Administrative Development Ahmed Samir.

Samir added that state factories producing national ID cards are currently producing nine million cards per year. He also said that the phenomenon of ID numbers being used by more than one individual was “impossible”.

He added that every year seven million new cards are issued and renewed.

Samir went on to say that the previous Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) subsidies system would be brought to an end at a time deemed appropriate by the proper authorities.
