Former Egyptian finance minister Youssef Boutros Ghali was sentenced in absentia on Tuesday by a criminal court to 25 years in prison for squandering public funds related to coupons used for subsidised cooking gas, according to state-owned Al-Ahram.

Ghali fled the country around the time former president Hosni Mubarak was ousted in 2011. He had already been sentenced earlier to 30 years in prison in another graft case, according to Reuters.
