The 6 April movement (Ahmed Maher front) organised a surprise rally on Wednesday night near the Ittihadiya Presidential Palace.

The rally expressed 6 April’s rejection of President Mohamed Morsy’s constitutional declaration, giving him a “yellow card” for his actions.

A leading 6 April figure Mohamed Adel said, “almost 200 6 April members gathered near the
palace for an hour, calling for punishment for those responsible for Jika’s killing and revoking the
declaration which makes Morsy, the Constituent Assembly and the Shura Council immune [from judicial review].”

Gaber “Jika” Salah was shot ten days ago near Mohamed Mahmoud Street amid clashes between protesters and security personnel. Salah was an 6 April member and also a member in Al-Dostour party. He died Sunday night after remaining in a coma for almost a week.

The protesters held yellow banners as a warning to the president.

“This is Morsy’s first warning,” Adel said. “We ask of him to stop being stubborn.”

The constitutional declaration issued last Thursday granted Morsy sweeping new powers. His opponents accuse him of abusing the legislative power he holds in the absence of a lower house of parliament. The declaration placed Morsy’s decisions above judicial review. It also stated that the Constituent Assembly and the Shura Council could not be dissolved by the judiciary.
