Six women wearing niqab attacked another woman outside the High Court at around 8pm on Saturday. They beat her and attempted to burn her hair.

Mirette Michail was with her sister outside the high court when she was attacked by six women, according to her sister.

Michail posted a reaction on her Facebook account on Sunday. She said, “I’m physically ok, don’t worry.” She added, “I am just shocked, but I’m fine.”

She told of how two anonymous men stepped in just in time to prevent the women from causing any physical damage to her. She believes that these men had been watching the women before they attacked her.

Amal Abd El-Hady of the New Women Foundation said, “any assault on anybody is a violation of rights. Nobody has the right to interfere with anybody’s personal freedom.”

She added, “these sorts of things are happening because of the violence following Morsy’s declaration. There are groups who feel they are above the law and exercise their beliefs by their own hands.”

Two weeks ago two Coptic women were attacked and had their hair cut by two women who wore niqab.
