CAIRO: Ahly have made an offer to sign Nasr player Ahmed Khalaf, the Egyptian second-division side said on Saturday.

They tabled an LE750,000-bid to sign Khalaf, Nasr spokesman Abdel-Nasser Zidan told FilGoal.com.

Nasr football director Hesham Kotb will discuss the matter with the technical staff to reach a final decision over whether to sell Khalaf.

However, the club are unlikely to accept Ahly s offer because we put an LE3-million price tag on Khalaf.

A sweeper is still in demand in Egyptian football as the majority of clubs play with a traditional 3-5-2 formation.

Ahly have struggled to fill in for former Egyptian international Emad Al-Nahhas, who suffered cruciate ligament damage twice in less than a year.

Natural central defenders Shadi Mohamed and Mohamed Samir failed to impress while playing as sweepers.

Khalaf, 23, could be the solution to Ahly s defensive problems, having impressed for Nasr this season.

Nasr, the club where Ahly legend Mahmoud Al-Khatib began his career, were on the verge of sealing promotion to the Premier League but fell at the last hurdle.
