CAIRO: The Egyptian Supreme Court has allowed crisis-hit Zamalek to hold their board elections earlier than originally scheduled.

The elections were due to take place in July but Zamalek sought permission to settle their administrative issues before the summer.

The Cairo giants were granted their wish and can now start the election process immediately.

The ruling will help Zamalek s new board identify their targets and recruit new players in the summer transfer window.

Zamalek interim chairman Mohamed Amer is currently heading the club s board of directors.

Controversial lawyer Mortada Mansour and wealthy businessman Mamdouh Abbas, who enjoy a frosty relationship with each other, are expected to fight for Zamalek s presidential seat.

The White Knights have long suffered from administrative instability that hugely affected their run in local and continental competitions.

Zamalek have last won the Egyptian Premier League title in 2004. Their sole triumph since then came when they lifted the Egyptian Cup in 2008.

They endure one of their worst ever league runs this season, lying eighth in the 16-team table on 26 points, just six above the relegation zone.
