CAIRO: Lierse’s Egyptian full-back Ahmed Samir said he snubbed an approach from AhlY because he hopes to have another spell with Zamalek.

Samir joined Harras Al-Hodoud two years ago after spending an unsuccessful season with Cairo giants Zamalek.

The right-back moved to Belgian second-division side Lierse in the summer of 2007.

However, Samir claims he wants to return to Zamalek to the extent that he turned down the overture of their arch-rivals Ahly even though the Red Devils denied that they had been in contact with him.

“I’m surprised that Ahly said they were not interested in my services because a prominent board member talked to me about a possible move.

“Anyway, the idea of joining Ahly did not cross my mind. I love Zamalek and I wish to play there.

“Zamalek did not table an official bid but I reached an agreement with Lierse to leave in January if I received a good offer because I have many problems with the Belgian club, Samir added.

The 27-year-old was involved in a dispute with Lierse coach Herman Helleputte after insisting to fast during the holy month of Ramadan.
