Minister of Petroleum Sameh Fahmi and Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Khaled Shreidah discussed current progress of the Arab gas pipeline in Cairo earlier this week, reported the State Information Service.

The project hopes to export Egyptian natural gas to several Arab countries, including Jordan. The ministerial meeting focused on the second phase of the plan, which includes the extension of the pipeline from Al-Aqaba to Al-Rehab city in Jordan, the report added.

It was noted that Egyptian oil companies working in Jordan have implemented this junction.

In order for phase two to be completed, however, a 30 km pipeline should extend from Al-Rehab city to the Jordan-Syrian borders, where phase three begins.

Fahmi pointed out that the Syrian cabinet agreed on importing Egyptian natural gas through the Arab gas pipeline, and that Syria is currently implementing the phase related to the third stage of the Arab gas pipeline.
