The winners of the three categories in the third edition of the “Golden Talents” competition for people with special needs have been announced at its concluding activities.

Awards were presented to the winners of the solo singing, solo playing, and group singing categories.

The annual competition was organised by the Cultural Development Fund, in cooperation with the Cairo Opera House. It aims to provide support for people with special needs, and open up new opportunities for those with creative talents in all fields. The competition helps to discover distinguished talents all over the country, local media reported on Monday.

Fathy Abdel-Wahab, Head of the Cultural Development Fund, said that people with special needs are role models of determination. He expressed his happiness with the success of the competition’s third edition, despite the hard circumstances Egypt has faced due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

In his speech at the competition’s concluding events, Abdel-Wahab thanked Minister of Culture Inas Abdel-Dayem for her support.

The competition comes as part of Egypt’s plan to integrate people with special needs into society, affording them the opportunity to play a greater role in the country’s development.

About 300 contestants from across Egypt applied to the competition this year, including students from the universities of Al-Azhar, South Valley, Ain Shams, Qena, and Mansoura.
