Economic cooperation between Egypt and China will be greater and stronger in the post-coronavirus (COVID-19) period, according to Chinese Ambassador to Cairo Liao Liqiang.

Liao added that Egyptian and Chinese companies are currently involved in ongoing discussions regarding economic cooperation and increasing business in both countries.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Liao noted that China and Egypt have worked together in the fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“We support cooperation between the concerned Chinese and Egyptian companies in the health field, as well as consultations between Chinese and Egyptian sides,” the ambassador said, “I hope that the results of cooperation will be satisfactory in finding a vaccine that helps Egyptians confront COVID-19.”

Liao congratulated Egypt on the positive results it has achieved in the battle against the coronavirus, with the country’s confirmed daily caseload of infections going down in recent days. The ambassador expressed his hope that the virus will be completely controlled in the shortest period of time.

He affirmed that Chinese projects will continue their work in Egypt, and that Chinese businesses in the country have not suspended their work during the global pandemic.

Preparations for the third China International Import Expo (CIIE) are also underway and have not been affected by the pandemic, he explained.

Liao added that preparations for the exhibition are progressing smoothly, with the participation of many companies from around the world expected.

“We welcome the participation of Egyptian companies in the CIIE, which will be held as scheduled from 5 to 10 November in Shanghai, and which enhances the opportunities for economic cooperation between Chinese and Egyptian companies in the future,” Liao said.

The ambassador also called on countries to provide a fair and open trading environment for Chinese companies, including Huawei, to enhance trade and economic exchange between China and Europe.

He further elaborated that, as a global company, Huawei has made significant contributions to the development of the world’s technological infrastructure, especially in Egypt.

The company has been in Egypt for the past 20 years, and has participated in many national projects as well as various community programmes which it supports, to qualify Egyptian youth in education and training.
