The Egyptian authorities allowed Air Cairo to run an exceptional flight to Charles de Gaulle Airport, France on Wednesday despite aviation suspension as part of the government efforts to contain the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Egypt has been working with embassies of the US, the UK, and France on arranging the repatriation of foreign citizens stranded in Egypt. Air Cairo operated a flight between Cairo and Paris on 8 April and another one from Cairo to London’s Gatwick Airport on 12 April.

The US embassy in Cairo informed its citizens in Egypt of the next Paris flight, so that they can book tickets in case they wish to leave Egypt, adding that the flight departs from Cairo at 10:00 and lands at 14:40 on Wednesday.

US citizens are allowed to purchase tickets on this flight and transit Paris/CDG if they also have direct connections to onward flights to the US, the embassy said. It added that travelers are responsible for making arrangements to reach the US, taking into consideration that Air France has flights scheduled to the US almost every day.

The US embassy reassured its continuous work with the Egyptian government and foreign embassies to provide options for US citizens who wish to depart Egypt.
