New Alamein city is set to be an international tourism city that is planned to include approximately 10,000 hotel rooms, said Deputy Minister of Housing for National Projects, Khaled Abbas.

Abbas told Daily News Egypt that about 30 tourism developers will be assigned to develop the planned hotel rooms.

He added that the Ministry of Housing represented in the New Urban Communities Authority has spent EGP 25bn in housing and infrastructure projects in the city, of which roughly EGP 8bn for providing public facilities.

He revealed that the ministry has contacted Disney to open a branch of the international entertainment complex in New Alamein, however, the American company said it’s working on another project in Dubai and does not intend to have a new project in the region for the current period.

Commenting on allegations that private real estate developers do not have access to lands in New Alamein, Abbas said that lands are available for all developers under the new allocation mechanism, dubbed “Market Oriented”, however, most developers want lands overlooking the sea.

He elaborated that the total area of New Alamein is 50,000 feddan, and only 8,000 feddan overlook the sea, of which 30% will be allocated for building roads and the corniche. Therefore, the net area may be 3,000-5,000 feddan.
