The Ministers of Irrigation and Water Resources of Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia are set to meet in Cairo in a new round of negotiations on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

The two-day meeting is expected to complete technical discussions on issues regarding the filling and beginning the operation of the dam expected in 15 January.

Sudan’s Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources revealed in a statement that Minister Yasser Abbas would travel to Cairo on Saturday, to head the Sudanese delegation in the two-day meeting.

This meeting marks the second in a four-part series agreed upon by Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia in Washington early November. It is attended by experts, technicians, and ministers representing each country. The meetings are also supervised by the United States and the World Bank.

The first meeting was held in Addis Ababa in mid November. The third will take place in Khartoum in December, and the last is expected in Addis Ababa at the end of December or beginning of January.
