Manufacturing, extractive industries index reach 142.80 in March: CAPMAS

The manufacturing and extractive industries index, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, reached 142.80 in March (primary), compared to 124.10 during February (final), an increase of 15.1%, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics’ (CAPMAS) monthly production index of manufacturing and extractive industries.

It explained that the manufacture of food products reached 108.72 in March, up from 93.22 in February, an increase of 16.6%, due to higher contracting and supply and higher quantity of ground wheat.

“The manufacture of wearing apparel increased by 59.3%, in March reaching 457.91, compared to 287.43 in February,” the CAPMAS added.

It explained further that this increase is due to supply contracts.

The CAPMAS disclosed that the mining and quarrying reached 125.35 in March, compared to 170.95 in February, a decrease of 26.7% due to low production of oil.

Furthermore, “the manufacture of furniture reached 67.23 during March, down from 78.92 in February 2019, a decrease of 14.8%, due to the market situation.
