Egypt’s industrial production value increases by 27.6% in Q3 of 2018

The value of industrial production (excluding raw and refined petroleum) reached EGP 185.3bn during the third quarter (Q3) of 2018, compared to EGP 145.3bn during the same quarter of 2017, an increase of 27.6%, according to the quarterly bulletin of industrial production/public business and private sector enterprises issued by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) on Sunday.

Iron, steel, precious metals, and foundry factories contributed with the highest percentage of total industrial production as it reached 20.8%, followed by food products manufacturing by 16.1%, then basic chemicals, fertilisers, fibres, and industrial threads manufacturing by 15.5% of the industrial production value (excluding crude and refined petroleum).

Production values for chemicals and its products reached EGP 28.8bn for Q3 of 2018, compared to EGP 14.8bn for Q3 of 2017, an increase of 94.4%, due to increases in detergent and fertiliser production as well as an increase in market demand.

Furthermore, production values of furniture manufacturing reached EGP 0.8bn for Q3 of 2018, compared to EGP 0.4bn for Q3 of 2017, an increase rate of 94.3%, due to increases in the number of signed contracts.

Moreover, production values of other non-metallic mineral products reached EGP 1.3bn pounds for Q3 of 2018, compared to EGP 1.4bn in Q3 of 2017, a decrease of 5.3%.
